Mars response to COVID-19 crisis

There are moments in history that stay in everyone´s memories.

The crisis of the COVID-19 has unleashed a period of uncertainly and agility of enormous proportions. The COVID-19 crisis is quite different from previous ones in that it impacts on so many levels. Countries around the world are experiencing economic and health impacts, loss of lives and jobs, a strain on health systems and supply chains, on education and freedom, the very construct of our social and economic system comes under question.

In times of uncertainly, a company´s values and attitude takes on a whole new meaning.

Faced with disruption and uncertainly, Mars stayed true to its principles in supporting the local communities where it operates.

Responsibility and mutuality are two of the principles deeply rooted in the DNA of every Mars associate. In uncertain times, it is our responsibility to stand united and help local communities where we operate. We truly believe that we will only get through this pandemic together.

To this end, in April, as part of its response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Mars Incorporated has taken action to better support the communities in which it operates, and the most vulnerable in its extended supply chains. Mars commitment includes an initial cash and in-kind donation of $20 million, more than €18 million, to support people, pets and communities most affected by COVID-19 in different projects.

Of the total amount, more than €7 million were destined to three organizations: CARE, United Nation´s World Food Programme (WFP) and Humane Society International (HSI).

The remaining €11 million will come from a combination of cash and in kind donations from across the markets where Mars operates as well as donations from its Foundations including The Mars Wrigley Foundation, the Banfield Foundation, the Pedigree Foundation and the Tasty Bite Foundation.

Mars Iberia: Spain and Portugal

Mars Iberia committed to donate €81.000 to Red Cross projects destined to support the work of the organization, especially with Spain being amongst the worst hit countries worldwide.

This support helped almost 400 vulnerable families, with special focus in children´s wellbeing, nutrition and continued education.

Cafosa participated actively in this project. The donation was designated to families in the local communities around Cafosa factory facilities.

Since the launch of the initiative in Iberia, Mars, Inc. also offered assistance in obtaining individual protective equipment and respirators in both countries.

The company has also donated products (chocolates and bars) to healthcare workers in many hospitals and donated more than 2 tons of pet food to different institutions.

At Mars we believe that the world we want tomorrow starts with how we do business today. When we help today the less fortunate ones, their tomorrow will certainly be brighter.
